ABSTRACT
ONG ago there was a custom, kept without fail and preserved till this very day among Northerners, that horsemen wearing complete / armour should, from level ground or from any place that Nature has made uneven, mount tall, saddled horses, especially on slippery ice and snow-covered plains, where battles tend to be most often and more fiercely fought, as I shall set out below when I deal with conflicts in winter.
