ABSTRACT

AMONG other exercises of the northern warriors, or their cavalry, there was one principal one, that whoever was attempting to enter A and follow the profession of arms should be in no doubt at all that he would have to submit to iron discipline with tough endurance: because it was against the harshest elements that he would wage his first contest of all, that is to say, he would zealously stand watch by night during winter in a freezing camp and not allow himself to be torn from his post whatever degree of cold prevailed or tempest raged.
