NO one can fail to rejoice that in every age wholesome advice has benefited monarchs and their peoples,1for their recollections make men well aware that honour and safety are more often the lot of kings and princes if their subjects experience prosperity and give thankful obedience than when they suffer wretchedness and misfortune, for in such conditions disputes are endemic.
