WHOEVER wishes to look into the subtlety of notorious traitors in order to be on his guard against it should peruse (among others who have commented on cruel affairs of this kind) Plutarch's Life of Marcus Crassus. He, led on into inexpressible distress and disaster by the deceitful arts of two Arab fugitives, was shamefully killed together with his powerful army.
