ABSTRACT
WHEN the king realized this, he reckoned that his safety could only lie in flight and a few days later he was compelled to withdraw towards his own country of Denmark. During this journey he ordered many people to be executed by breaking on wheels, hanging, and by another terrible kind of death, quartering, especially among the stgótar at Vadstena, the territory of St Birgitta.
