ABSTRACT

The steamer docked at Stettin, at the mouth of the Oder, on the evening of 1 November. The Medtners transferred at once to the Berlin express and two and a half hours later arrived in the city that was to be their home for the next 16 months. They rented a flat in the residential suburb of Charlottenburg, and the composer immediately hired a piano to prepare for the concert engagements he hoped would soon be forthcoming.
