ABSTRACT
The final seasons of competition between the Patent Company and Lincoln’s Inn Fields produced relatively few new productions, but provide considerable evidence regarding the musical practices in the theaters and the musical tastes of their audiences. In 1705, two new operatic productions laid the ground for subsequent seasons of competition between Rich’s Patent Company and Sir John Vanbrugh’s new theater in the Haymarket.
