ABSTRACT
This bibliography is divided into several sections so as to focus the reader’s attention to the very distinct aspects of Jean Cras’ life: the critical press, specialized dictionaries and encyclopediæ, primary sources, works on Brittany, works on military history, followed by the general bibliography. The majority of the newspaper articles cited in the first section of this bibliography may be found in the Bibliothèque nationale’s catalogue of press reviews for music, the Fonds Montpensier. Although this archive strives chiefly to compile articles and reviews on French composers, dossiers on many foreign composers may also be found. This bibliography includes the major reviews of the first performances of Jean Cras’ compositions. A double chronology is operative: in the first instance, the works are presented chronologically, as we have done in Part II of this book; subsequently, the reviews are listed in alphabetical order by critic; in the event that a critic has reviewed the same work more than once, the reviews are listed chronologically. In the General Bibliography, multiple works by the same author are cited alphabetically.
