ABSTRACT

A major reason for the interest in preliminary testing was the high failure rate in training that all nations were experiencing. Considerable emphasis was given to the successful pre-testing that was used by the Federal Aviation Administration's newly instituted and university oriented Civil Pilot Training Program (CPTP). The CPTP was terminated with the US in World War II when all government-sponsored aviation training was done by the military. Operators are forced to consider training costs in the same way that they consider other expenses, in spite of the fact that training deserves a higher priority than does almost any other kind of costs. Two successful ab initio programs in the US are a specialized four-year program at Embry Riddle University and the four-year ab initio pilot training program called Spectrum. Line-Oriented Flight Training does not include any formal checking, and there is little doubt that removal of formal checking or evaluation considerably enhances the training potential of the session.
