ABSTRACT
Of all great composers, Bach, since the rediscovery of his music at the beginning of the nineteenth century, must be the one whose standing has been subject to the least fluctuation. He remains today what he has always been – the divine creator on his throne above the clouds, beyond the reach of all others.
