ABSTRACT

This chapter describes aspects of good management which will assist in the relationship between design and management, with the aim of producing first-rate large or small exhibitions for the client and the visitor. Production management is essential if it is to be executed successfully. As things stand most contemporary production managers or companies have evolved, training up staff as they went along, but just as with designers it is very important that they should be specifically experienced in exhibition production. The ideal production manager will be flexible and able to relate equally to suppliers, designers, contractors and clients. Junior work in a design office, with a strong emphasis on management and production problems, could make a good basis upon which to build a career. An understanding of the necessity for production and financial control and constraints is essential, as is respect for and understanding of designers and the need for design.
