ABSTRACT

Marie Joseph Alexandre Déodat de Sévérac, Baron de Sévérac, Baron de Beauville, was born on July 20, 1872, in Saint–Félix–Caraman (now Saint–Félix de Lauragais), a small village east of Toulouse in the southern province of Languedoc, or region of Haute–Garonne. 1 Some biographers claim that the surname Séverac can be historically traced to an ancient Roman lieutenant named Severus. 2 The family then migrated to the province of Languedoc during the ninth century and moved to the village of Saint–Félix–Caraman six centuries later. 3
