Dark Matter and All That Jazz

Dark matter is a term from astronomy, recognizing the need for “invisible” stuff. Theories of motion and the expansion of the universe require us to infer that most of the universe’s matter does not radiate (it provides no glow or light that we can detect). In one sense, this dark matter (called dark because it is the light that is missing, not the matter) is a secret treasure that we seek to find.
