ABSTRACT
Thus far, this book has described the marginalized status of Chicanos, reviewed community demographics that demonstrate this marginality, and discussed some of the sociolinguistic paradigms through which linguistic marginality and cross-cultural miscommunication can be analyzed. This chapter discusses the data collection procedures and methodology used to investigate such miscommunication in Chicano–Anglo conversations and then introduces the actual language forms used in this book’s analysis of Chicano–Anglo communication and miscommunication.
