ABSTRACT

It has been noted that the import gures do not include a limited quantity of clove produce shipped coastwise from Singapore. On the other hand, the export gures omit a certain quantity of cloves sold in the local market. Ignoring these indeterminable amounts as counter-balancing factors, it may be assumed that

the surplus of exports over imports, i.e., 675 cwts. or 2,160 frasilas, represents very roughly the total of Penang production shipped overseas.
