ABSTRACT
Very rarely do any of these exceed the quantity which is injurious to health. Very bad water is apt to turn syrups cloudy, and over 5 parts per million of SO2 tends to blacken the inside of the can. ere need be no fear of cloudiness from hard water in Malaya, though I fancy, that the sugar obtained from Java / contains a fairly high quantity of SO2; from the examination of several came I found a certain amount of blackening, this is also apt to produce a metallic taste.
