ABSTRACT

We have great pleasure in presenting to our readers the following circular addressed to the southern agents on the subject of suspending operations during the war. This is a highly important and very judicious movement on the part of the Directors of the Mutual Benefit Life Insurance Company of Newark. This circular will have the immediate effect of settling at once the subject of forfeited policies on the ground of non-payment, according to the terms of the contract. Some Life Insurance Companies have already paid out thousands of dollars for surrendered policies, which from the peculiar circumstances of the case must have ultimately relapsed of themselves on the ground of non-payment. A little patient forbearance on the part of such Directors might have saved to their respective institutions a large amount of money, which has passed directly into the hands of rebellious secessionists. The action of the Mutual Benefit in this respect will save the Company all this unnecessary expenditure. /
