ABSTRACT

A warrant to issue John Irishe, 'trumpeter of Calace' [Calais] with a banner like that of other royal trumpeters is dated 20 Feb 1552/3. He does not seem to have become one of the trumpeters in ordinary until late in 1557: he was paid with the others from 31 Dec 1557 to 24 June 1558 at the full rate of 16d a day, but has disappeared from the records by 19 Nov 1558, when new liveries and banners were issued at the accession of Queen Elizabeth.
