ABSTRACT

This chapter provides the answer to the final research question: What insights does the PNG case study provide in terms of potential improvements to UNCAC and its implementation and enforcement, with the goal of securing the final stage of evolution for the global anti-corruption regime? It is argued that, if UNCAC is to support the successful evolution of the global anti-corruption regime, it will need to be more adaptable and respond to experiences from actors engaged in regional and domestic anti-corruption efforts. Enhanced education of these actors on UNCAC and facilitation of engagement between actors and through the Implementation Review process are highlighted as essential steps. It is further suggested that technology should be harnessed to support anti-corruption efforts and avoid the risk that perpetrators of corrupt acts take advantage of technology to avoid being held accountable. If such measures are not taken, it will not be possible for the global anti-corruption regime to reach the final stage of evolution and substantially reduce corrupt activity globally.
