ABSTRACT

This chapter utilizes the term ‘family practitioner’ in the text to highlight the importance of family when thinking about infants. Many other names have been used such as professional, educator, carer and key person, family worker, nursery nurse. Personalised care also potentially enables individual care to be implemented with greater flexibility than the regimes needed to support infants in larger group care, with many practitioners having differing roles during the day. In balancing spontaneous and unforeseen events in a flexible and adaptable way, a routine will naturally occur and establish the rhythm of the day. Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) settings can potentially support the close relationships with vulnerable families who may also find the transition to parenthood physically and mentally challenging. The chapter also presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book.
