ABSTRACT

Notes of lessons should be interesting to make and useful in the class-room, and it is often in reality only a doubt as to what is needed that causes the perturbation. Before dealing with the making of the actual notes it is wise to consider the main types of lesson. The classification of lessons most usually adopted is that which uses purpose as a basis of division. The practice lesson may be an aid to the knowledge lesson or to the lesson on skill and even to the appreciation lesson, but in every case its function should be to make more definite the lesson which it follows. A lesson is planned that the children may acquire some new piece of knowledge, or some new skill, or experience a definite emotional reaction. Most children are expected to draw or paint well, and yet they are never shown beautiful drawing, sometimes never even the teacher's.
