ABSTRACT

The third case-study chapter follows the journey of Chloe, a 20-year old English major in the Faculty of Arts at CUHK who joined a year-long international exchange programme in the Netherlands. She experienced language and culture fatigue in the host environment but benefited from the mentoring process and became more positive about her sojourn by the end of the semester. A comparison of pre- and post-course IDI results revealed that she had gained in intercultural competence, moving to the second half of Minimization, the transitional stage.
