ABSTRACT

Instances of violence against healthcare service providers and litigation against doctors and hospitals have been increasing over the years. The trust between healthcare providers and community members seems to be waning, and there are reasons for this situation. Earlier healthcare providers were highly regarded in their communities; the relationship between the two was that of provider and recipient. It was believed that financial considerations were not the sole reason for the healthcare provider to provide services to people; there were some social considerations, and many doctors worked with a motivation to help people. The clients expect healthcare providers to express concern for their pain or suffering. Healthcare providers are required to explain to clients the nature of their problem, the proposed course of treatment, and the possible outcomes. Sometimes healthcare providers, out of their concern for the clients, their economic status, or some social obligations agree to compromise with the standard clinical protocols.
