ABSTRACT

This chapter suggests some basic recruitment strategies and some common sense notions of how to select employees. It outlines the basic principles of a recruitment search and shows basic techniques of job analysis. The chapter explores the basic technique of selection interviewing. There are four stages in transferring a job description into an aide for interviewing, which are: job analysis produces a list of tasks, rate the tasks in order of importance, apply key skills and attributes (KSA) to each task, and decide which KSAs will influence selection. The more the recruiter knows about the job – what kind of effort is needed, how easy is it to learn – the clearer will be the eventual contract. In hospitality it is an issue as to how much job knowledge a recruiter needs to be effective. Detailed description of the duties and responsibilities of a job can be obtained through analysis of the job and laid down in a job description.
