ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses critical cosmopolitan foundations in diverse students' lives. Drawing from insights from different studies, it aimed to identify ways in which diverse students are legitimate members of a critical cosmopolitan discourse, although they may not always be included in such. Most importantly, all students had had intercultural experiences and expressed an interest in furthering their engagements across difference. The graduate international students who saw themselves as initiators of change of the educational systems in their native countries shared analogous characteristics, albeit within quite more ambitious plans. While the foundations for the further cultivation of critical cosmopolitan frames of mind and action were evident in the students' discourses, one has to wonder whether their aspirations and plans for the future would become actual dreams. It seems that the role that future educational research can play in the kosmopolitan era can be central.
