ABSTRACT

To illustrate the people-place concepts discussed in prior chapters, this chapter presents case studies of four design projects. These projects were identified through a review of design awards, recommendations of experts in the field, or direct experiences with the place. Each project embraces human-centered design theories, goals, and public engagement strategies. They elucidate and further explain the theories, methods, and design practices introduced elsewhere in this book. Included are places that have been designed for relaxation and restoration, community gatherings, equity and inclusion, and learning and play.
