ABSTRACT

The company in selective lean transformation case story was a Fast-Moving-Consumer-Goods (FMCG). This case story is for a FMCG manufacturer that wanted to improve its business processes' performance throughout its supply chain. After our assessment, the planned basis of transformation was the implementation of a Collaborative Planning and Replenishment (CPR) scheme and reengineering the business processes to support the CPR scheme. Top management had made a directive to optimize the order fulfillment processes for repetitive, discrete product manufacturing. A manufacturer of small electric motors for consumer electronics was looking to transform its business processes in its efforts to maintain competitiveness. A Fast-Moving-Consumer-Goods manufacturer in Thailand had a burning platform. This case-in-point example reflects a company implementing a cost-savings initiative without considering the downstream repercussions. The company had an active continuous improvement program and strongly encouraged its staff to be innovative and identify cost savings opportunities.
