ABSTRACT
This chapter is primarily concerned with individuals rather than groups. Earlier, we defined biostatistics as the science of management of empirical uncertainties in health and disease. Basic to all this is measurement, because it is through measurement that quantities are obtained and uncertainties aptly studied. Medicine is more qualitative than quantitative, but qualitative measurements too are inherently assessed in terms of quantities. This can be explained as follows.
