ABSTRACT

This textbook is a complete, comprehensive introduction to a model of multi-dimensional, integrative, culturally competent psychotherapy – The Diamond Model. This model synthesizes numerous theoretical concepts, methods and techniques drawn from diverse sources. It is multi-systemic, linguistically uniform and rigorous. The central principle that explains the etiology of a case as well as spontaneous or therapeutic change is simplicity. Any therapeutic technique can be applied with the purpose of restoring the system’s lost simplicity, if its underlying change mechanism is understood. The book guides the therapist or trainee through all the stages of therapy: multi-systemic diagnosis as a basis for designing therapeutic strategies; carrying out a multi-systemic therapy using any therapeutic technique, including integrative play therapy techniques; monitoring the therapeutic process; and termination.
