ABSTRACT

The modern state should pass beyond secularism, for it is much better to recognize benefits of allowing religion a place in public square; religious adherents are obliged by their faith traditions to be law abiding, to work persistently at their jobs, to raise families responsibly, which thus creates jobs, taxable income, and reduces the crime rate. There is an inconstancy in attitude of secular society toward religion, utilizing it when it is useful or necessary but otherwise taking attitude of disdainful rejection. Any attempt at Muslim "takeover" is sure to be repulsed by normal American distrust of religious authorities attempting direct influence on politics. Like other new immigrant communities, Muslims will gather political influence first on local level, and then where possible on state and even national level. Muslims in America have arrived in increasing numbers, some as repatriates from war-torn homelands such as Somalia and Syria, most in normal manner of immigrant communities coming to United States.
