ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on one road map that have used successfully in a Performance Management Initiative, a modified version of the Stages of Change Model, also referred to as the Transtheoretical Model. It presents the role of incentive programs and training in a Performance Management Initiative. There are various ways to go about understanding and then promoting behavior change. However, this simplistic view of management and behavior change doesn't provide much of a road map for administrators who are invested in bringing about change as quickly and as efficiently as possible. For example, it doesn't support a model for training, for how and when to best incentivize behavior change, or for estimating the long-term return on investment from a training program. The model assumes that everyone goes through five discrete, predictable of stages when making a behavior change: Pre-contemplation, Contemplation, Preparation, Action, and Maintenance. According to the original model, the changes in behavior are associated with energy expenditure.
