ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book explores empirical evidence related to human resource management (HRM) application in small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) that operate in turbulent contexts. It focuses on turbulent economies across regions characterised by organisations of varying size. The book also explores how the application of HRM in SMEs in turbulent contexts followed similar logics to more developed economies. It deals with HRM issues in SMEs in turbulent economies by emphasising coordination or congruence among the various HRM practices. The book focuses on the HRM orientation of SMEs as a general approach initiated and followed by owners and top managers in these companies. It argues that SMEs are at the core of turbulent economies, and, therefore, there is a need to support the development of such enterprises.
