ABSTRACT

The clothing industry is concentrated in a few large towns, many of which are adjacent and closely linked to cloth manufacturing centres. The industry is a very simple and straightforward one to the planner. Because of their harmlessness and their dependence on female labour, clothing factories should be placed as near as possible to residential areas, and the smaller factories can be placed in suitable positions actually in residential zones, so that their employees can get home to dinner at mid-day and accept part-time employment without too much travelling. Heavy clothing includes men's suits and overcoats, women's coats and costumes, certain types of raincoats, men's shirts and pyjamas and industrial overalls. The production of rubber proofed garments is very similar to other heavy clothing industries. Light clothing includes women's dresses, underwear, night-wear, infants' wear and baby linen, and some types of men's underwear.
