ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines the GRIT methodological sequence. The sequence is expressed in fifteen steps which are arranged in five phases. Phase I of the sequence provides for adjustments to the national table which supplies the basic input into GRIT; these comprise adjustments for price changes, updating and for international trade. In Phase II the difficult task of estimating regional imports for each region for which tables are desired is attempted. Phase III provides for the insertion of 'disaggregated superior data', that is estimates which the operator considers superior to those produced by the mechanical operations of Phases I and II, and which are available at the disaggregated level. Phase IV provides a further opportunity for the insertion of superior data, when these data are available only in a more aggregated form. Finally, Phase V allows for the inspection of each table, the insertion of superior data and other adjustments to improve the accuracy of the table or to remove anomalies.
