ABSTRACT

This chapter provides some discussion on the limitations which should be borne in mind when applying the results of the study, and some retrospective comment on the GRIT system. Two types of limitations which apply to the GRIT results are identifiable, namely as those which would apply in any input–output analysis irrespective of the method of derivation of the table, and those which may be specifically attributed to the characteristics of the GRIT system. Application of tables of the smaller and simpler economies, such as that for the North West region of Queensland, appears to be more prone to distortion through the linearity assumption. GRIT provides tables which are derived from a sequence of mechanical procedures, supplemented by superior data insertions and by survey or other exogenous data as required to ensure freedom from substantial error. Nevertheless the GRIT sequence will be subject to professional criticism, evaluation, improvement and ultimately replacement.
