ABSTRACT
Workers as individuals, and society as a whole, are concerned with both the level and the dispersion of income in the economy. The level of income obviously determines the consumption of goods and services that individuals fi nd it possible to enjoy. Concerns about the distribution of income stem from the importance that we, as individuals, place on our relative standing in society and the importance that our society, as a collective, places on equity.
