ABSTRACT

The space competition is no longer simply one between competing superpowers but involves a myriad of actors that include national governments and their agencies, both civil and military, and increasingly private sector players including entrepreneurs. With the increasing proliferation of smaller sized satellites, the downstream segment of space sector is continuously expanding such exploitation of space, driving growth in the business of space. Likewise, in terms of manufacturing in space and the potential for additive manufacturing there, the process has only just started with National Aeronautics and Space Administrations experiments on the International Space Station. And while space travel and tourism have been the subject of much anticipation for some time, there is still some distance to be travelled before they materialize at a significant level. However, it is only a matter of time before the rich potential for greatly expanded exploitation of space starts to be realized.
