ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the blending of religious and nonreligious discourses and cultures to promote resilience in sacred marriages. Participants in sacred marriages ordered religious and nonreligious discourses and cultures in the selection of strategies of action to solve their problems. Through the blending of religious and nonreligious spheres, participants sacralized marriage by ordering their lived experiences. While the specific cultural tools used to sacralize marriage varied in the data, religious culture produces and is produced by a blended ordering of religious and nonreligious discourses and cultures.
