ABSTRACT

Scientists are flawed human beings who use flawed tools, so the practice of science does not produce perfectly reliable and certain knowledge. We need to be able to evaluate the validity of scientific claims and evidence more carefully and accurately. We must not ignore the many serious flaws in the practice of science. We need to be aware of scientific malpractice, as well as scientific fraud, so as to be able to recognize the proper practice of science. And we also need to understand what scientists can and cannot accomplish, and the unintended consequences of scientific discoveries.
