Why are international actors interested in the Ganges–Brahmaputra problemshed?

This chapter asks: why are international actors interested in the Ganges–Brahmaputra–Meghna basin? It explains the increasing interest in the socio-economic development and political stability of South Asia, as well as the waning influence of the World Bank in the region. The construction of water infrastructure is no longer the approach for water resources development favoured by the World Bank or, indeed, stakeholders in developing countries. Instead, a more nuanced approach is increasingly preferred; an approach of good governance and benefit sharing outcomes.
