ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the link between an organization's strategic focus and training and development as a strategy implementation issue. It defines and explains the meaning of training and development. The chapter recognizes the importance of a model training and development program design and recalls all the important issues in a basic presentation on the design of a training program. It identifies and describes the role of a needs assessment in preparing a training program. The chapter explains why and how a training program design involves creating a process. It recognizes and explains the importance in understanding the relationship between the adult learning style, human behavior, and creating a training program. A definition of training and development from the Society of Human Resource Management is that training and development represents a "process to obtain or transfer knowledge, skills and abilities needed to carry out a specific activity or task."
