ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book focuses on the search for appropriate concepts, methods and techniques for investigating the complexities of an urban system. It consists of a set of activities and interventions in processes carried out to achieve a set of goals for a society. In order to be meaningful to the society, urban analysis must see itself within the framework of a policy science. Urban analysis can be seen as not only playing increasingly important role in planning, but also in improving general understanding of urban systems. The role of values in urban analysis has often been neglected in many theoretical formulations while it is treated as a residual variable in others. In spite of the apparent successes in modelling urban spatial form, there is still a rather poor understanding of this phenomenon.
