ABSTRACT

When the author show the pictures during one of the author's seminars, folks notice all those things and don't notice why the author show these pictures side-by-side, until the author mention the reason. The picture on the left was taken in low light with the author's Canon 5D Mark IV set at ISO 6400. Noise shows up more at high ISO settings. Noise is more pronounced in shadow areas and this picture is mainly shadows. This picture was taken at predawn in Bosque del Apache with the author's Canon 7D Mark II set at ISO 10,000. The original image had some noise, but the author reduced that in Lightroom. Lightroom and Camera RAW, as well as plug-ins such as Topaz DeNoise, do a good job of reducing noise. In-camera noise reduction is possible on many mid- to high-end digital cameras. When reducing noise in-camera, the time between consecutive pictures is delayed, often as long as the exposure itself.
