3. There seem to be five categories of vowel sound in Moru-Madi, which may in a practical orthography, be represented by the letters a, e, i, o, u. With the exception of a, however, each category covers two main varieties of vowel sound, which may be tentatively called ‘tense’ and ‘lax’. Thus:
