ABSTRACT

China’s urbanization, in the context of such an international economy, is bound to undertake the double pressure that stems from traditional industry structure upgrading and economic globalization. China’s new round of international industrial transfer will promote urbanization in most areas. Coastal areas will take the lead in industrialization and urbanization and approach new economy of knowledge and technology-intensiveness. Urban spatial structure switches from ring-patterned growth structure to network one, which makes the multi-function community the basic spatial carrier of the networked city. The rise of labor cost has led to the shortage of farmer labor in coastal areas and increased labor force for urbanization of inland rural areas to a certain extent. The urbanization in the past was a kind of extensive expansion mode centered by land, relying on price difference between agricultural and non-agricultural land, as well as extremely low resource cost to expand city built-up areas.
