ABSTRACT

An article by Wu Bian denouncing "new leftists" was published in the Twenty-First Century in February 1996. Wu Bian was most concerned with the problem that a simple combination of indigenous experience and postmodern discourse by "new leftists" would result in the loss of the critical spirit of the old system and the judgment as to the self-reflection of the entire nation. Cui Zhiyuan, however, has criticized this idea. The frictions in protecting intellectual property rights (IPR) between China and America come ultimately from the "benefits of the entrants" caused by a huge difference in prices between cost of innovation and that of counterfeiting others, which leads to the inferior position of the innovators in market competitions. The foundation for the self-organized mechanism in China lies in a social structure that is full of relational networks. Individuals are not atoms in a state of maximizing their self-interest but "relational beings".
