ABSTRACT

The independent greenlight committees usually comprise a small group inside a distribution company that look at projects submitted to them through their own in-house acquisition or development staffs, agencies, producers, from foreign sales companies. Most of these projects taken under consideration consist of developed scripts with the majority of elements attached and a vetted production budget. They evaluate measures based on the company’s relationships with, or interest in, the filmmakers, the marketing potential of the project to a core audience including advertising costs and box office scenarios, and the financial models which project expenses. While the specific terminology inside each company may be different, this report is generally called a Profit & Loss Report. It shows financial models for low, medium and high case scenarios of box office success. Independent companies who will broker the distribution rights for Filmmakers' movie to each international market and will use that financial commitment to fund the production of the film.
