ABSTRACT

This chapter explores how marketing should be ramping up right alongside the movie. The actual making of the movie is a significant tool in the marketing toolbox. In the pre-production process Filmmakers will likely create art for visual development and storyboards. These are obviously important tools for planning the look and feel of the movie, but they can also be marketing assets. Making-of and behind-the-scenes featurettes are great tools to use to promote a movie. The pre-production period is a very important time for both the film and for the marketing. The documents, materials and decisions Filmmakers make during this time are all useful tools and resources for marketing. At this point in the process, publicity is already working on talking-points for the filmmakers and the cast based on the overall marketing positioning of the movie. The pre-production period is a very important time for both the film and for the marketing.
