ABSTRACT

An overview of community change approaches is described. There are three, including local social networking and support, technical problem-solving for issues at a community level and social action, which is a formal stance against or in support of an issue, event or practice. A community meeting is often used to bring together stakeholders to consider shared problems and solutions. The most common outcomes of community change are organization and program development. Organizations are formal entities that have membership and leadership with vision, mission, objectives and activities. Programs, in contrast, are more specific and intended to reach a particular group for a purpose that is important to the organization within which they are housed.
