ABSTRACT

While psychology emerged from the perspectives of upper-class males, the views of women and writers who emphasized class struggle as well as those who opposed colonization were evident among scholarly contributions of the time. Contemporary philosophical contributions offer a theoretical basis for the simultaneous promotion of both fairness and liberty from combined structural and postmodern views of society. Critical thought in human services has been apparent within professional psychology. An AO perspective includes the recognition of social problems and their effects on the lives of individuals. It is critical in the sense that links to oppression are specifically considered.
